Report of the Weekend by Steve Griffith
An excellent turn out for this year’s meet which saw over 30 members at the weekend including a number of new faces which was encouraging . For most of us Nottingham is new touring area and we ably led on the rides by Jeff Burton the local area group secretary.
Saturday ride saw 24 riders leave the hostel, which is pretty much in the centre of Sherwood Forest on perfect autumn day. The Major Oak was visited as were a number of forest tracks, and then we headed north enjoying a wide variety of terrain including canal and forest riding and a late lunch at Chamber Park. We were impressed by the quality and the quality of the off road riding.
The committee meeting was attended by all as is our policy with only committee members able to vote. Topics discussed included the forthcoming Easter meet at Dunster which was recently visited by our editor and secretary and possible venues for 2015. There was report from Publicity working group lead by Jane Gill which outlined a number of changes to the website plus the presentation of a variety of excellent publicity material. Also discussed were improvements to the Journal and we have arranged to provide the editor with some support given this is most challenging of all the committee roles. It was also agreed to propose a motion to the AGM to allow the creation of a committee post without specific responsibility as this was seen as a good way to encourage participation.
The Merit Shield will be awarded to Jane Gill for her work on publicity and on setting up the Yorkshire Dales Group. The favoured location for next year’s autumn meet was Bridges Youth Hostel. The evening was rounded off by a slide show presented by Roger Thorpe of past Easter Meets.
