Report of the weekend by Steve Griffith
Great Hucklow admirably fulfilled our criteria for a successful autumn meet venue, being in the centre of the Peak District and thus accessible to many in the Fellowship. However most importantly it is at the centre of some superb riding, proving quite lanes, tracks and some superb ridge views.
Friday’s weather can best be described as challenging with heavy rain. Our luck was in because Saturday proved to me perfect Autumn day. The main ride headed north along part of the Limestone Walk known as Oxlow Rake. The highlight in terms of rough stuff must be for me the track from Edale over Neither Moor, which drops down to Ladybower Reservoir. This has everything, a rideable climb up, an exciting river crossing, a dramatic decent and then an easy ride along the reservoir.
The Committee meeting passed on very smoothly. We were pleased to learn our membership is now 594, the highest it has been for some years. There was useful discussion about how to improve the appeal of the website (that the RSF national website). Arrangements are well underway for the Easter meet at Peebles, and it is possible next year’s Autumn will go south.
The highlight of the weekend for many was the wonderful meal provided by Richard Eastwood who lives in the nearby village of Foolow. Providing a meal for 20 plus takes some doing but to this standard must surely be classed a heroic effort. Thanks again Richard from all of us ….
